Frequently Asked Questions
From what type of company would Reclaim-it collect?
Different companies use different types of cartridges, making it important for collectors to visit as wide a range of businesses as possible to obtain a good variety of cartridges.
This could mean calling on a small solicitors' office and collecting half a dozen inkjet cartridges a month, to calling on large multinational companies and collecting a pallet full every month.
How many companies will join the scheme?
In our experience, collectors can soon build up a round of five to six hundred companies in their area depending on the size and business population.
Collectors will spend a minimum of 25 hours per week actually calling on local businesses so we envisage that most will be visited and ultimately join the scheme.
How much will charities be paid?
The amount paid for each cartridge and phone will vary depending on the type of cartridge or phone.
A comprehensive list of all the cartridges and phones that have a value will be supplied to the hospice with the price that they will be paid for each.
The cartridge list will be updated every three months as prices may vary and also to account for new cartridges being introduced into the market.
The mobile phone list will be updated as and when new phones are introduced and older phones become obsolete.
At the end of each month Reclaim-it will produce a fully detailed list of all the cartridges and phones collected during the month.
This will include the individual value of each item as per the price list and also a total amount. The charity can then invoice Reclaim-it for the amount owing.
What does the charity have to provide?
All marketing materials, collection boxes, shirts, ID cards and transportation costs of the cartridges and phones will be borne by Reclaim-it.
There will be no cost to the charity for any of the services we provide.
Will approval be required from the environment agency?
The empty printer cartridges that are collected from companies are classed as waste and as such can only be taken away by registered waste carriers.
Reclaim-it is a registered waste carrier and, as such, collectors working on behalf of the company will fully comply with the legal requirements of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
As part of the act, Reclaim-it can supply a Waste Transfer Note, valid for 12 months, to any company that joins the scheme.
